OPENING FOLDERS IN NEW WINDOWS

OPENING FOLDERS IN NEW WINDOWS
If you like folders to open in their own separate window. Go under the Finder menu, under Preferences, click on the General icon at the top of the dialog and choose Always Open Folders in a New Window.

NEW WINDOW FOR FOLDERS (PART 2)
If you want to make use of Mac OS X’s “everything opens in the same window” scheme but occasionally you want to open separate window just hold the Command key and then double click on the folder.  Hold Option-Command and you can have the new window open and have the old window close automatically.

NEW WINDOWS FOR FOLDERS (PART 3)
If you’re working in a window while in Icon or List view and you want folders to open in their own separate window just press Option-Command-T first (the shortcut for Hide Toolbar).  This hides both the toolbar and the Sidebar, and by doing so, all folders that you double click on now open in their own separate window.

SHOW ME THE WAY TO GO HOME
Since nearly all of your individual files with the exception of your applications will live in your Home folder, there’s a keyboard shortcut you should become familiar with right away.  It’s Shift-Command-H and pressing it while in the Finder brings your Home window front and center in a hurry.  If speed isn’t an issue (and when speed is not an issue?) you can also click on the Home icon in the Sidebar (if you have the Sidebar visible).
